Have you ever done this?

It's really hot out today - they say it will get up to 95 degrees. So I dressed apprpriately: light skirt, tank top. What I didn't dress for is sitting in a freezing-cold, air-conditioned library. And I forgot to bring anything to keep me warm.

Except, that is, an in-progress rectangular feather-and-fan shawl that conveniently is long enough to cover my shoulders down to about my elbows. This means I'm sitting here with a half-finished shawl on, circular needle dangling somewhere by my left side, yarn running down to my backpack on the ground. It keeps me warm - but I have to say, I've never worn an in-progress garment in public (for anything other than in-progress pictures) before - have you?

I keep a knit poncho and a fleece blanket in my carrel at the library. When I get there in the morning, I put the poncho on and wrap the blanket over my legs. Even then I still get cold. Never mind its 100 degrees out with swamp-like humidity- you could freeze ice cream in that library...

Wow, such an intriguing idea...well, sadly I'm never far enough along to wear anything I'm working on!:(

That's hilarious! Yet another reason to always take your knitting along. Good thing you weren't working on a sock :-)

LOL! Can't say that I have, but sometimes, you do what you have to do to survive in the academic jungle. :) Incidentally, I keep a large silk scarf in my commuting bag at all times this time of year for just such an occasion. See you tomorrow?

Hey, you've gotta do what you've gotta do, it worked right. my WIPs I carry around are socks, not much help for the shoulders though ;)

:)

I can't say that I've actually worn WIPs in public, but I have thrown a half done scarf around my neck just so that the long end isn't dangling and getting tangled in the working end.

Yup. Once my Lady E got big, I didn't need to take anything extra with me!
