Blogiversary - and Contest!

That's right, today this blog is 1 year old! Happy Blogiversary to me! I can't believe it's been a whole year since I started out on the whole knitblogging thing. I've had some dry spells, but on the whole, it's been an enjoyable way to meet new people, chronicle my projects, and pass my time. You all have reminded me that the world can be a very generous place: you've given me yarn, praised my finished (and offered encouragment over the unfinished) objects, and even encouraged not only mine, but also my spouse's, academic pursuits, embracing such non-yarny things as books as an integral part of this blog.

In some small payment for what I've gained from all of you - and because I'm moving in a couple of months and some destashing is in order - I'm having A CONTEST! Here are the details:

What you have to do: leave a comment on this post telling me 1) a sock pattern (or other pattern, if socks aren't your thing) I'd be a fool not to knit (regardless of whether or not I've already done so) and 2) which of the two possible prizes you're interested in, or both.

What you'll win: Here's the tricky part: I'll draw one winner if there are 1-15 entries. If there 16-30 entries, I'll draw a second winner! So, the more people who enter, the more likely you are to win something! (And if it gets above 30 (which would be a real milestone for this blog) I'll add something else... to be determined. The current possibilities, though, are:

Rowan Felted Tweed
A ball of Rowan Felted Tweed, color SH 152, 191 yards. The color is a bit more bluish-green than represented here.

Knitpicks Shadow
Two skeins of Knit-picks Shadow in the color "Sunset" - enough for a full-sized shawl. The color is a bit darker and less fiery than shown here (appropriately enough, in the sunset).

How I'll pick: Random number generator.

Deadline: midnight, Sunday, June 3rd (for no other reason than it's about a week away, and it's my half birthday)

Enter away!
... and thank you!

Hmmm...I'd say that Monkey Socks are the "must knit" pattern. I'm even considering them and I'm pretty much a plain-sock kinda girl! If I'm the lucky winner, I have no preference on yarn at all. I just like to play!

Happy Blogiversary! I'm so glad that you started this blog. I enjoy reading your posts so much!

How fun! I would have to say Monkey Socks as well. I'm not a sock knitter (yet) but that pattern is one of the best written sock patterns I've seen.

I would love the Knitpicks Shadow if you draw my name.

Happy blogiversary to you!! Having a blog is great isn't it? I've not felt more connected to so many people - I would never have had that without it.

That is crazy, I was going to say monkey too! They sure must be popular!

I would like the felted tweed if you draw my name.

The sock pattern that comes immediately to mind is from the Knitter's? Knitters'? Knitters? magazine book Socks, Socks, Socks. I forget the exact name (no, you think?) but it's something like "tiger's eye." A bit rough to adjust b/c there's a long repeat, but they're gorgeous.

If the spinning random pointer lands on me, I'd like the orange stuff, please.

Happy Blogiversary...You know I'm all about the Monkey right now, but I'm going to recommend Wendy's Generic Toe-Up sock pattern if you haven't already tried this method:

And if I were to be so fortunate, I'd love the Sunset...

Happy Blogiversary! Though I have been knitting a very long time I have never knit socks or what I see is your other favorite, a shawl as small needles just don't call to me. I have to try socks a least once this summer so I have been looking at tons of patterns and this is the one I am going to try-http://webdesignsbybarb.com/tostetoes/petticoatsocks.htm
Hope you like it. I would love to win the Knitpicks Shadow yarn as the other summer knit I would like to do is a first shawl. I would love it if you suggested a first shawl pattern for me . I am not afraid of lace just afraid of eye strain and shoulder strain while knitting on toothpicks! I am running a stitch marker give away contest on my blog whichh ends June 5 if you are interested.

Happy blogiversary :)

I'm not into the Monkeys, but you should definitely knit Conwy from Nancy Bush's Knitting on the Road.

I'm more interested in the knitpicks laceweight.

Thanks for entering my contest as well. Do you have a suggestin of a rectangular shawl or wrap that you have made that you love?? I think that is a great suggestion.

Wow, from all the other comments, I'm going to have to give those monkey socks a serious look!

My vote is for Broadripple: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer03/PATTbroadripple.html

They knit up super fast since they're on thicker yarn, easy pattern, fun result.

My prize preference is the Knitpicks Shadow, but either one would be cool.

Yay! Contest!!! Love those!

1. I have to recommend two sock patterns here. I just can't decide between them. The first one is "Twisted Flower Socks" by Cookie A. (http://www.cookiea.com). That pattern is absolutely gorgeous!

The second one you would be a fool not to knit is "Bayerische Socks" by Eunny Jang (http://www.eunnyjang.com/knit/). I'm just about to finish the last toe on mine, and I'm completely amazed and in awe of the pattern. Beautiful!

You can see pics of both of these socks on my blog.

2. If I win, I would prefer the Knitpicks yarn.

Thanks for having the contest! :)

Anniversary congrats!! Well done!!

I only just started to knit socks - this was the pattern that made me like to knit them - it is so easy and looks really good (I have now knitted 4 pairs, I have added my own stitch pattern, so each pair looks completely different)

(By the way, the designer/blogger is Lisa from the Knittyboard)

Flickr is banned here where I live, so I cant see the yarn photos, but because I have so little yarn anyway - I would welcome whichever yarn, if my number comes up!

lotsa love

I would say you either have to knit Knitty's Baudelaire or the entrelac socks in Socks, Socks, Socks. The former are my absolute favorites (they look and feel gorgeous), and the latter are fun to make and would be a great excuse to buy some lovely self-striping sock yarn. If I end up winning this, I'd like the Knitpicks lace yarn, please.

(Lame though I feel for entering a contest without ever having read your blog before... I feel a bit better about it because your blog is good and will be added to my list of ones I read. :) )

You've gotta have a pair of these!!

I like both yarns, and haven't used either. If I had to pick onne I'd go with the rowan. Fine yarns make my hands hurt!!!

I just finished the Little Shells socks by Judy Sumner: http://knoxsocks.com What a fun pattern! You can see a photo on my blog.

Happy Bogaversary!
I think you should try Jeanne Townsend's Lilac socks. They are beautiful and fun to do.
If I were the lucky one, I would choose the Sunset.

Greta_Jane said...

I am in favor of a non sock item--that sweater that I bought yarn for while visiting you, that they had to order and etc, etc, etc. I have the pattern photocopied for you somewhere...

If I win, I would like the sunset please.

Penny Karma, aka the F-Bomb Mom said...

Oooh! I'll play!

Um, you should knit Baudelaire socks cuz I think they're cool-lookin.

And I'm indifferent as to which yarn is the prize.

C'mon, Random Number Generator!!

Cheers to one year!

I think you should knit http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring06/PATThedera.html .

congratulations on making it to the one year mark!

For socks, I'd say Jaywalkers (they are the socks I wear the most). The other sock pattern that I enjoyed knitting was Blue Danube, a pattern by Candace Eisner-Strick and available in kit form from Ellen's Half Pint Farm.

On the off chance that I would actually win, I would like the Knit Picks yarn, please.

mathomhouse said...

I haven't yet knit a sock that I don't like -- so I will just recommend Jaywalkers or Roza's Socks, since those are what I am knitting at the moment!

The Shadow yarn is lovely ...

I'm loving these socks on Momma-Monkey's blog: http://momma-monkey.com/2007/05/17/introducing-carolina/

And if I am randomly lucky, I'd vote Knitpicks.

Happy Blogiversary!

Oohh, if I was going to recommend a sock pattern it would be Broadripples from Knitty (Summer 2003 I think). They are my fav to knit up.
If I had to choose, I'd go with the Knitpicks, but really I'd be happy with either :)
Happy Blogiversary!!

Happy blogiversary!

I haven't knit anything beyond basic socks so far. I think my next project may be the Thuja pattern from Knitty, so I'm going to submit that as my recommendation - because everyone can use a nice pair of ribbed socks.

I don't have a preference between the prizes.

IrishGirlieKnits said...

Happy blogiversary!! Love the socks you made in Jitterbug above!

I would recommend Monkeys (I just finished my first one...and I can see why they are so popular..the pattern is addictive). Thujas were enjoyable too.

Oh, and both yarns look yummy. I'd enjoy either one.

Have fun in Boston. I just got back from my first trip there! Loved it!! xoxo Irishgirlieknits (aka Carrieknits on the knittyboard)

As I am not a sock person (yet!! It's on my list, I swear!!), I would have to recommend the My So-called Scarf from Sheep in the City. You seem to like to work with variegated yarn (and really, who doesn't??) and this is a great way to use some variegated yarn in a heavier weight than sock or laceweight yarn. (I used Malabrigo worsted).

If I get picked, I'd like the knitpicks.

Take care and have fun in Boston!!!

Monkeys all the way! All the cool kids are making them.

I've got no prize preference. Both are pretty.

Thank you! -- the Felted Tweed arrived safely a few weeks ago, and has already been appropriated by my younger daughter, although she has not yet decided on the project to be knitted from it!

Thanks and best wishes to you again --
